Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce the St Andrews Institute of Medieval Studies (SAIMS) Graduate Conference to be held on 7–9 June 2018. The conference is aimed at graduate students and early career researchers, and its remit is the whole range of medieval studies. Papers will be 20 minutes long, plus 10 minutes of discussion. Submissions will be evaluated on academic merit, though preference will be given to papers with a thematic connection to the research interests of SAIMS staff and students. These include, but are not limited to:

·      Chivalric literature
·      Church history/religious life
·      Crusading
·      Eastern Mediterranean studies
·      Gender history
·      Intellectual history
·      Late Antiquity
·      Latin poetry
·      Law
·      Middle Eastern studies
·      Old English
·      Old Norse
·      Philosophy
·      Rulership/lordship
·      Scottish history
·      Texts and manuscripts
·      Urban history

Our keynote speakers are Professor Robert Bartlett (University of St Andrews) and Dr Alice Taylor (King’s College London).

There will be no registration fee and we will offer up to ten travel bursaries for postgraduate speakers. Further details will be made available in due course.
